Italy to Offer Residency by Investment Program in 2017

Italy is set to commence a residency by investment program starting at the end of March 2017.

Foreigners will be able to acquire a residence permit in Italy provided they fulfill the following investment requirements:

  • Invest at least €2 million in government bonds and hold them for at least two years.
  • Invest at least €2 million in corporate bonds or shares, or €500,000 if investing in an innovative start up, and maintain them for at least two years.
  • Invest at least €1 million in a public interest project, such as a culture, education, immigration, research and development, or arts and heritage project.

Successful applicants will gain permanent residence status for two years in Italy with the possibility of a three-year extension. Italy hopes to attract foreign investment with these new measures.
